ORION / MANUFACTURING CAPABILITY
Orion Engineering Works focuses on precision die manufacturing with a process-led approach covering raw material preparation, turning, drilling, counterboring, heat treatment, rectification and final quality control.
MANUFACTURING PHILOSOPHY
Orion Engineering Works is dedicated to manufacturing dies and related pellet mill components with emphasis on controlled machining, application-specific drilling, material performance and consistent quality.
Production requirements can vary with feed, biomass, wood, minerals, recycling materials and other demanding applications. For this reason, die geometry, drilling diameter, compression ratio and thickness are treated as application-led parameters.
Manufacturing decisions are aligned with product, pellet size, machine reference and process requirement.
Turning, drilling, counterboring, heat treatment and finishing are organized as controlled process stages.
Manufactured components are checked through the process with focus on dimensional accuracy and traceability.
MANUFACTURING FLOW
Each stage contributes to the final geometry, strength, wear performance and repeatability of the finished die. The exact sequence may vary depending on product type.
RAW MATERIAL
Die manufacturing begins with controlled raw material selection. For ring-shaped dies, forged steel ring blanks provide the starting form for subsequent machining operations.
Material is reviewed before manufacturing so that machining, drilling and heat-treatment stages begin from a consistent and suitable base.
TURNING
The turning stage establishes the principal geometry of the die and prepares the component for later drilling and finishing operations.
Precision-controlled machining helps maintain dimensional consistency and supports efficient production of different die sizes and configurations.
DRILLING TECHNOLOGY
Drilling defines the working hole pattern of the die. Hole diameter, spacing, surface finish, compression length and relief geometry are adapted to the intended application.
Controlled drilling produces the working hole pattern required for pellet formation. Precision tooling supports smooth hole surfaces and repeatable geometry.
Flat-die drilling follows the same precision principle while adapting the pattern and geometry to the flat working surface and the intended raw material.
COUNTERBORING
Counterboring helps define the discharge side of the die hole and can influence material release, effective compression length and overall die behavior.
Depending on the requirement, counterboring can be configured in different forms, including stepped or conical/cylindrical geometries.
HEAT TREATMENT
Heat treatment is used to improve wear resistance and mechanical performance while maintaining the resilience required for demanding pelleting conditions.
The treatment cycle is selected according to the component, material and required performance characteristics before the die proceeds to finishing and inspection.
RECTIFICATION & FINISHING
Rectification and finishing refine the component after earlier machining and heat-treatment stages. This is where critical surfaces and dimensional relationships are brought into final controlled condition.
The objective is a finished die with repeatable geometry, clean working surfaces and dimensional consistency ready for final inspection.
QUALITY CONTROL
Inspection is integrated throughout the manufacturing process, with particular attention after machining, drilling, heat treatment and finishing stages.
Final component identification and documentation can include relevant manufacturing and dimensional references to support traceability and repeat-order consistency.
Orion's manufacturing approach is designed around consistency — from incoming material through the final inspection stage.
